Honoring Black History & The Story of Moses

As we step into February, we celebrate a month rich with history, culture, and faith. This month, at Unconquered School, we are weaving together two powerful themes: Black History Month and the story of Moses and obedience. Both themes emphasize courage, leadership, and the strength to follow a higher calling, even in the face of adversity.

Honoring Black History Month

Throughout February, we will explore the contributions of Black leaders, scientists, artists, and pioneers who have shaped our world. Our students will engage in interactive learning, storytelling, and hands-on projects that celebrate resilience, creativity, and achievement.

Exciting Activities:

  • Weekly Focus on Black Inventors – Students will learn about figures like George Washington Carver, Patricia Bath, Lonnie Johnson, and Jerry Lawson

  • Freedom Songs & Poetry – Exploring the role of music and spoken word in the Civil Rights Movement.

  • Hands-On History – Creating visual timelines of key moments in Black history.

  • Book of the Month: "The ABCs of Black History" by Rio Cortez.

The Story of Moses & Obedience

In addition to honoring Black history, we will dive into the life of Moses and the importance of obedience. The story of Moses teaches us about faith, perseverance, and trusting in God’s plan. Just as Moses led the Israelites to freedom, we recognize leaders in Black history who paved the way for justice and equality.

Bible Lessons & Activities:

  • Obedience in Action: Reading and discussing Exodus 19:5"Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession."

  • STEM & the Red Sea: A hands-on experiment demonstrating how wind and force can move water, mirroring the parting of the Red Sea.

  • Building Moses' Basket: Testing different materials to see what floats, just like baby Moses’ journey in the Nile.

  • Ten Commandments Art Project: Creating stone tablets as a class.
